What We Believe

See what Movement Austin believes about God, Jesus, humanity, the Bible, as well as many other important elements of faith. Our beliefs guide and govern all that we do as a church.

The Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to humanity. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error, is authoritative on all matters that it speaks to, and is completely relevant to our daily lives. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Proverbs 30:5; Romans 16:25-26)

The Trinity

There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority. (1 John 5:7; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 3:7-11)

God the Father

God is the unchanging Source of all that exists, seen and unseen. With the Son and the Holy Spirit, He created humanity in His image. God relates to us as Father, revealing His love and goodwill toward us. (Genesis 1:26, Exodus 3:14, Numbers 23:19, John 20:17, Matthew 23:19)

God the Son

Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. In His life on earth, Jesus was fully God and fully man. He is the only human ever to have lived a perfect life. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on the cross for the sins of mankind, and atoned for our sins through the shedding of His blood. He bodily rose from the dead on the third day, defeating sin and death and granting us access to resurrection power, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return again in power and glory. (John 1:1,14, 20:28; 1 Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5-6; 1 Timothy 2:5)

God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, not merely an impersonal force or power. He indwells all Christians, empowering them to live holy, victorious, Christ-exalting lives. He sovereignly gives gifts to believers to build the Church, and He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and the truth of the Gospel. (John 16:8, Galatians 5:22-23, 1 Corinthians 6:19, Acts 1:8 John 14:26)

Humanity

Every human being is made in the image of God and is the pinnacle of His creation. Man was created for a relationship with God, but became separated from that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, no human can attain a right relationship with God through their own effort. Every human personality is uniquely created, possesses a divine purpose, and is worthy of respect and love. (Genesis 1:26-30, 2:7, 18-22, 3, 8:21, Isaiah 6:5, Colossians 1:21-22)

Eternity

As beings created in the likeness of an eternal God, all humans will exist eternally. Those who follow Christ will exist eternally together with Christ in the Kingdom of heaven. Those who do not know Christ will be separated from God forever. (John 3:16, 1 John 2:25, John 5:11-13, Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:15, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Matthew 24:36, Matthew 24:42, Matthew 25:13, Hebrews 9:26-28)

Salvation

Through faith in the perfect life, atoning death, and victorious Resurrection of Jesus, any person can be forgiven of their sins and made right with God. Salvation makes a person free from the penalty of past, present, and future sin and connects them to unlimited provision and abundant life in Christ. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16, 3:8; Titus 3:5; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 16:31; Hebrews 9:22, Philippians 4:19)

The Church

The church is the Body of Christ, indwelled by the Spirit to accomplish the same purpose as Christ while He walked the earth: to make disciples of all nations. Through faith in Jesus, a believer becomes a member of the Church, which consists of all believers of all time. It is also God’s will that every believer belong to, serve at, and contribute to a local church. (Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; Hebrews 10:25, 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23)
